Stelios Karamanolis was born in Athens, Greece in 1977 and currently lives in Berlin. He has studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts. Looking at the works of Stelios Karamanolis, we wander through desolate valleys, passing thin smoke signs, flowering plants or colorful clouds.

Apart from a sink or a chimney, you find small traces of humanity. Instead of people, chatty, funny or curious creatures populate the artists' works. Like a kind of puzzle, their expressions are portrayed depending on the position of the observer. Thus the artist manages to turn everyday objects into magical and living creatures.

"In my attempt to express something unknown, I draw my inspiration from a type of art that has almost disappeared"
— STELIOS KARAMANOLIS

Stelios Karamanolis's artworks are reminiscent of illustrations often found in ancient art. He combines elements of drawings and writings. His flat, abstract painting style is reminiscent of preliminary studies familiar from Renaissance painters such as Albrecht Dürer or Hieronymus Bosch. Instead of blank paper, Karamanolis uses raw canvas as the basis for the works.
