Andrew Clausen (USA, 1977) began his artistic training in the studio community of Art City in Southern California. From there he traveled to Italy, where for 13 years he worked with artisans and developed his own skills in conceptual ideas and refined use of materials. Cast concrete, metals and composite materials such as carbon fiber are his primary media used to form works.

Today, Clausen lives and works in the city of Arnhem in the Netherlands.

"For me, my artworks are a technical challenge and a combination of high and low-tech. It's about fine-tuning materials into something aesthetic that turns into true artistic craftsmanship "
—Andrew Clausen

In his latest works, he works as an engineer, applying techniques to develop modern constructions. However, these constructions become "delicate and calm" works of art when Clausen is finished with them.

He uses, for example, cast concrete in the compositions on canvas, resins, graphite and 3D printing.

His unique process, which begins as a 2-dimensional graphic sketch, is transformed through digital fabrication into subtle relief patterns that are repeated on the concrete surface.

His visual language is inspired by geometric shapes found in industrial environments, machinery and architecture.
