Born in Germany in 1972 in a British Forces Hospital, Hedley Roberts grew up in rural Cornwall. He studied at Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art and holds a PhD from the University of East London. Since 1994, he has exhibited throughout Europe, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and the USA, as well as curated exhibitions, directed residency programs and published art writing.

Roberts is also a former head of several art schools in the UK and professor of art; supervision of PhD students. He now lives and works in Margate UK with artist Sian-Kate Mooney and their dog, Logan. Robert's challenging paintings of still life vanitas, landscapes, momento-mori and portraits refer to personal narratives, art history, politics and popular culture and are recognized for their complex range of painting techniques and for their themes of otherness, existential threat and gothic subjectivity.
