Rasmus Højfeldt works with time - time as a concept. He fears time because it passes and because we are all perishable. He has researched materials that parish and anything that symbolizes time. "I simplify or complicate ideas about time, and I recreate the ideas in a clear and distinct expression", he says. "My complete works remind us of what passes and disappears - namely time. "Höjfeldt collects and uses things and symbols that we normally disregard and throw away. He twists and bends them. He borrows from art history, the eternal vanity and corruption of time and life. For Højfeldt, his practice has changed a lot over the last period and is developing more and more around the concept of illustrating a subject from many different angles and media.
"I examine the relationship from the inside and the relationship between people. I criticize what society makes us forget. I criticize what we have become. I am looking for a way to live in these times. I want you to feel! "
Højfeldt strives to create a collection of many different parts, all of which create associations with the exact subject he is working with. He believes that art is the experiment and that art has no correct or final answer. "I want people to think, interpret and feel without the use of ornamented aesthetics or promotional functions", he says. He uses materials that time has not destroyed. Everything leaves a mark, and consumption has consequences both for the present and the future. Fragility fascinates him and it inspires him in his latest work, and nothing is as fragile as time. Højfeldt concentrates on classical art subjects, but he still reflects on the present time, navigating and observing.
Højfeldt says: "Art in relation to the present, in which we live, fascinates me. In these times, it is crucial to describe, concretize and highlight art, even if the easy "likes" may seem tempting. The attention of new generations is fragmented and difficult to maintain. Art fights for attention against social media and other quick and easy impressions, but in my opinion art is still better than these media because of its history and depth.” This leaves him with a sentimental need to work with the concept of time and visualize the perishable modern world by creating.
"I fear my own decay, therefore I create," he says.
