Rare and early edition of Børge Mogensen's iconic slatted sofa, designed in 1945 and put into production by Fritz Hansen in 1962. This version is from December 1963, only the second year of production, and bears the original mark with production number "1263".
Mogensen was inspired by a French chaise longue and an English daybed, resulting in this versatile piece of furniture that functions as both a sofa and a bed – the back can be detached with straps so that the furniture can be folded out. The design was first shown at the Danish Cabinetmakers' Guild Furniture Exhibition and was praised for its free placement in the space and being ahead of its time.
The sofa is made of solid beech wood and has been recently restored with new varnish and cleaned, impregnated green velvet upholstery. The fabric is in very good condition and the belt loops under the seat have been replaced. The wood bears natural traces of age and use, which only adds to the charm and authenticity.
A beautiful, functional and sustainable choice – this original version is not just a piece of furniture, but a piece of Danish design history.
