Two very early LCM chairs (Lounge Chair Metal) designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller in 1946. This set is from around 1954 and is considered the 2nd generation – characterized by the solid steel frames, distinctive 'boot gliders' and earlier type shock mounts.
The chairs are made of pressed walnut veneer with a chrome-plated metal frame – a groundbreaking combination for its time, both in construction and aesthetics. The seat and back have been carefully restored with two small veneer repairs, followed by light sanding and waxing, which has given the wood its warm glow back. The frame shows natural patina after 70 years of use, and two of the original 'boot gliders' have been replaced with identical new ones.
These chairs originate from the American company Federal Mogul's inventory – a historical curiosity that adds an extra dimension to the chairs.
A rare opportunity to acquire an iconic and early version of Eames' design history – and a sustainable choice with soul and history.
