Elegant set consisting of three original hand-colored botanical plates, which together form a harmonious and calm whole. The prints originate from English Botany; or, Colored Figures of British Plants, third edition, edited by John T. Boswell Syme and published in London by George Bell & Sons in 1902. The illustrations are based on the classic botanical work of James Sowerby and J. E. Sowerby, whose engravings are renowned for their scientific precision and balanced aesthetics.
The set shows three closely related species of cage parsley:
Small Bur-Parsley (Caucalis daucoides),
Great Bur Parsley (Caucalis latifolia)
and Field Hedge-Parsley (Caucalis infesta).
The plants are rendered with fine, precise line engravings and discreet hand coloring, highlighting the umbels, the finely divided foliage and the characteristic seeds. The color palette consists primarily of soft green shades with light pink accents and natural shading, creating a light and timeless expression.
Suspended together in a horizontal row, the prints appear visually coherent and elegant. The generous white surface, which is typical of English Botany, making the set particularly suitable for modern, Scandinavian, classic or coastal-inspired interiors. An obvious choice over a sideboard, console or desk, both for collectors and for those seeking authentic antique wall art with a calm, academic presence.
