FLOAT is a dining chair with an open back that provides gentle flexibility and comfort. The design and functionality make FLOAT suitable for several room types and environments, including restaurants, as four chairs can be stacked on top of each other.
A simple and slightly curved steel tube frame supports the wooden seat and backrest. Hard and soft, cold and warm meet in both design and material to create the balance. The FLOAT chair comes in a seat and backrest of natural oak or black ash veneer on a steel frame with a black structural powder coating.
FLOAT is the first furniture design realized in a design collaboration between the two designers, Lars Vejen and Taijiro Ishiko.
FLOAT is manufactured in windy Northern Denmark.
Wrapping
The FLOAT chair is delivered fully assembled (stacked with up to 4 chairs depending on the number of chairs purchased) in a solid outer box.
Material
The seat and backrest of the FLOAT chair are made of wood veneer with oak on the upper layers with a core of beech wood, in a choice of natural oil or black painted finish. The frame is made of a high-strength ⌀18 mm steel tube with a fine structure black powder coating.
Please note that the colors shown in the images may in some cases differ from the colors of the actual object, so we cannot guarantee a color match. The natural material used can also vary in appearance from object to object.
Care
The oiled oak veneer leaves the wood natural and provides a soft surface. Over time, it will develop a natural patina, enhancing the beauty of the material. Dust can be removed with a dry, soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush. Cleaning the wood can be done with a soft cloth wrung out in lukewarm water, stroked in the grain directions and immediately wiped off with a soft cloth. If a more rigorous cleaning is required, specific soap for oiled wooden furniture can be used according to the packaging instructions. Re-oiling can be done if the wood begins to look faded or the surface softness diminishes. Make sure you find the right oil for indoor wood furniture and follow the instructions on the packaging.
The black painted oak veneer can be regularly cleaned of dust by using a dry soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush. Cleaning the wood can be done with a soft cloth wrung out in lukewarm water with a mild solution of universal detergent. Wipe immediately with a soft cloth.
The powder coated steel can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth and if necessary the soft dry cloth can be wringed in lukewarm water and gently applied and wiped off with a dry cloth immediately afterwards. Avoid using aggressive cleaning agents or abrasive cleaning agents as this can permanently damage the surface.
